Yes face book is not a solution but a similar place for discussion may
help. All others you gave are reliable solutions. I remember using
digest mode but even that some how miss the required information as the
subject line is not clear.

In some of the groups I observe when the discussions are archived the
email will be displayed as xxx.com which helps us. For providing mobile
numbers we can restrict ourselves when the mail is addressed to the
group. But a place like facebook will help more.
