As far as I am aware NAB Braille Press and talking book studio are creating
accessible books (earlier till std 10 in Braille but till std 12 in Braille
now and till eternity in audio). The problem is that all don't get books at
the beginning of the year. Of course, the responsibility lies with the
state but state has no infrastructure and hence it relies upon NGO's. NGO's
try their best but of course, they can do only this much.
Besides, there is a major problem in Brailling of books. Day by Day the
books are getting pictorial and Brailling them is a challenge. Of course
there are ways and means to do this but to my knowledge (and I stand
corrected) these NGO's have not approached textbook bureau for
modification/alternative text in place of pictures. The problem is rather
complex and that is difficult.
I am unaware as to whether all the books of all the subjects of std. 11 and
12 are Brailled. That is something that NAB will have to tell you.

clarification on 2 issues and that too for Maharashtra only at present. I

requirment and how much is reaching?
Whose responsibility?
Who do we have to activate to solve this problem?
Are these books not available in time?
When do they really reach the students.
Please concentrate and let talk offline if need be with proper facts and
figures.
what are the several NGOs doing in Maharashtra-no one has gone to court as
yet. Why wait for the CJ to bring up an issue.
If text books dont rech the students on time then I cannot expect them to
be able to compete and if they cannot compete then the whole effort on
solving the employment issue is without a strong foundation.

Dear Kanchan,
Although this is a salutary direction (Order), my contention is that if
at all, all the books for study first need to be made available in
accessible format in reasonable time rather than past papers. Of course,
if we were to take the argument that all that is available to sighted
students also needs to be available to the blind then what about guides?
Please do not take this as undervaluing the order but only that so many
other requirements need to be fulfilled.
