Hi Heather,

I've not heard of this requirement coming from the NSF, but a few years back we
were required to provide a PDF of our (former) University Handbook materials.
These are provided online in five separate "resources" but, along with three
other policy resources, are searchable either together or independently. So,
likewise a PDF of these materials made no sense.

However, this was a legal request we couldn't ignore, so we provided a PDF of
the combined tables of contents to the materials that were formerly in the
Handbook, such that each policy noted in the table of contents was itself a
link to the policy on the web. The PDF worked as a portable electronic
directory - but was just useless as a paper document. This sufficed for the
PDF purpose and we created a PDF of only 5 or 6 pages in length.

My best,

Rebecca

Subject: [acupa-l] Policy Handbook PDF

Hello friends,

I received a call this morning requesting our Handbook as a pdf. He stated a
requirement by NSF to submit a pdf of the institution's Handbook as part of a
grant application. We've never had ours in a pdf, but the caller was quick to
tell me we are the only university that doesn't follow this practice.

Let's see a show of hands. How many of you have the entire Handbook as ONE pdf?
Am I the outlier? I'm not opposed to creating one, but it would need to be at a
slower time of the year.

Thanks,
Heather
