Hi Christine, Similar to Cornell, we do not regulate collections for presents, birthdays, showers, etc. However, we do regulate solicitation in terms of employees selling to other employees. Example, it would be prohibited for me to sell Girl Scout cookies to my co-workers.

The same is true for selling things to co-workers, and we even allow them to set up "casual" e-lists (through the university's e-list manager) in the units for this purpose. I'd like to ask the group how your campuses handle solicitation in the workplace. For example, do you allow employees or supervisors to initiate taking up "voluntary" collections to provide gifts for the admins, or for other co-workers? What about other, less formal solicitations for birthdays, baby gifts, etc.? Do you cover this kind of canvassing under your campus's solicitation policy? Are these solicitations the same as trying to sell things to co-workers (which we do prohibit)? Thanks for any thoughts you might be able to share. Hope to see many of you next week!
