Adobe claims to have no intention of stopping the sale of CS6 into the 
foreseeable future, but it will not provide any further updates, outside of 
possible bug fixes.

Yes there are some major, well-documented differences from 5 to 6.  From CS3 to 
6 is night and day, no comparison.  Search is your friend.  The upgrade charge 
of course goes up the older your current 
version is.

Since what you purchase is not the actual software but a license to 
activate/unlock it online, buying "used" doesn't seem to be an option. On the 
other hand of course, free hacked copies are out there 
somewhere.
