Most of you are making more money with videos than I and that money is probably
partly or in full providing for your living.
I am retired and make videos mainly as a hobby but do the odd job. The money I
make I mostly put back into my hobby to buy new equipment including editing
software.
That means having done a job I could get an update for Premiere but then it can
happen that for a few months I have no income. How can I pay a monthly fee?
At least now I have Premiere, its paid for, it's mine and I can use it whether
I do a job or not - and that for many years to come.

Actually, there are two issues. One is, as you state, stop the subscription
and even older software might stop working.

But another issue is higher cost: when one "purchases" a product (say CS6),
the total cost of ownership (TCO) can be lowered by amortizing the purchase
price over a longer time (e.g., skipping upgrades) whereas with a
subscription the TCO uncontrollably increases over a longer period of time.

Note there are no contracts offering a price break with longer periods (as
there are with magazine subscriptions).

And the attempt to justify a subscription by saying the user gets frequent
updates is a vacuous argument at best, when in fact the main reason for a
subscription seems to be to impose a price increase upon the user.

. My issue with this is not downloading the software but that even after
subscribing for several years once one stops paying the monthly subscription
you have nothing ..
