never did external monitoring with Premiere CS5. I I used to do this with Vegas Pro 8 and Final Cut Pro 5, dv - firewire to camera and out s video to the dvr.. worked ok.. I could try composite out of camera, though I recall I used s video for the higher quality, and in any case the camera is sending a recording or a playback of the camera content to dvr and dvr is sending to monitor via component....I could check if capture tape still works... this has not been a problem with CS5 in past.. I have tried every menu setting on the camera as well... is there a limitation with CS5 Premiere in dv external monitoring or could the problem have anything to do with the original footage which is various HD, avchd and dslr....though playback is another matter, I would think, since there are playback settings under Sequence Settings...
