It may be much more than that. See a fascinating little book, "Endless Universe: Beyond the big bang theory -- rewriting cosmic history", by Steinhardt and Turok, 2007. Here a few new cosmologists propose a cyclic universe, actually at least 2 separate universes (but each infinite in 3 dimensions while flat in facing "braine" other dimensions that approach cyclically and then wobble and contact in a recurring evolution of big bangs. It all has to do with M theory and multiple dimensions. I'm getting about 60% of this book even though it requires no difficult math. Nevertheless, our concerns about the world out there and in here are possibly moot. And last week I read a neat little book about Copernicus and his era. Amazing that scarcely 500 years separates a mysterious earth centered solar system universe (and the trepidations of Copernicus to offer his breakthrough) and this new cosmology. We should therefore remain very skeptical of our own certainties about IS and the auras of existence. We are still astrologers of our own minds as much as of the heavens. WC
