I am guessing some product manager decided that others are cutting into their surge suppressor market or something.... Not unusual, but they are selling to a tech savvy market. People are quick to call BS on stuff like this.
I can set up a surge test that will replicate their results. That is not the issue. I agree that semiconductor based designs work better at protecting the radios. The issue is people don’t like their surge suppressor because it causes the same problems that other semiconductor based surge products cause on that product line. Ethernet errors. Personally, the only place I would use GDT surge protectors would be at tower tops or other hard to reach places. But if you have errors on your Ethernet cable due to semiconductor based surge protectors and GDT cure that problem, you are going to use the GDT units if you want protection. They're not making enough sales on their own surge suppressor, which I didn't even know exists... Consider the source. They have an ethernet problem. Even with no surge suppressor they have frame check and CRC errors. Most semiconductor based surge suppressors aggrivate that problem. Gas discharge tube products don’t. While I will agree that they are a bit slower, to say they do not protect the product is disingenuous at best and totally false at worst. But the users will be the true test.
