Can only guess at the motivations, but this is only a test they did in their controlled lab, we haven’t seen this as a problem with that ISP in the lightning season in the field reported to us, and we of course lab test at much higher kV levels than the ones they claim generally, the ISP did their own testing as well with specific radios. So as Chuck said, I’d consider the source.

Consider the source. They have an ethernet problem. Even with no surge suppressor they have frame check and CRC errors. Most semiconductor based surge suppressors aggrivate that problem. Gas discharge tube products don’t. While I will agree that they are a bit slower, to say they do not protect the product is disingenuous at best and totally false at worst. But the users will be the true test.
