I'm not a big fan of the design but the specs are amazing, especially the prices for how fast and powerful these are.
Now Tesla will not be producing these for at least 2 more years, end of 2021 and the fastest one end of 2022. They reason they don't announce anything about the batteries is because Tesla will use these 2 years they have for extensive R&D to get the cost and performance to what they need. If they tried to build this truck today with existing technology, they couldn't do it. Same with the next gen roadster. They like to announce something 2-3 years ahead of production so they set goals for their engineering teams to be able to meet the expectations. Motor and battery technology is set to improve dramatically from recent Tesla acquisitions so they're just saying the specs will do this in 2 years, not today. They also have time to tweak the design based on feedback from consumers now after the launch event. We have to remember that Tesla is an innovator and they will never follow the status quo. They're changing our world for the better by pushing sustainable energy and pressuring other car manufacturers to follow. Tesla doesn't care to dominate, they want to inspire everyone to follow them into the EV future. Their master plan is an interesting read: https://www.tesla.com/blog/master-plan-part-deux On Fri, Nov 22, 2019 at 9:34 AM Mike Hammett <[email protected]> wrote: > To be consistent with my feelings on their semi truck, as long as the > performance, specifications, reliability, utility are as promised, I care > much less about how it appears. > > That $40k price point is nice, though I'd want at least the $50k to have > AWD. > > I've seen people say stuff like, "OMG, that too much money for a truck." > Clearly they have no idea what trucks cost.
