My wife asked the dealership if they had any plug in hybrids. The answered
that nobody makes them any more that they just charge the batt with the gas
engine. I told them that is exactly why we would not buy one, that we want to
drive on pure EV mode as much as possible as we charge with solar. Turns out
there are not many being made anymore. Jeep is about the only one I found.

Saw a summary of this in this morning's paper. A collection of automotive
journalists got together to "review" a cross section of 21 vehicles. 9 were
either EVs or hybrid, the rest were "sport utility vehicles" (no mention about
drive train).

Granted, they were all 2026 models, but it caught my attention that the winner
of the "Best under $50K" was the 2026 Solterra XT.

This video shows the only connection between the front & rear is the electrical
cord. There is no shaft. The small hump makes room for the rather large cable.

It says dual motor. So I presume one for each axel and then the front and rear
are connected via the typical Subaru center slip type of coupling thingy.

I don’t know enough about EVs to understand how AWD would work. Do they still
have differentials, or just a motor at each wheel?

The Car & Driver review was not exactly glowing, but it seems competent enough;
especially if you were (mostly) happy with the Leaf.

So now I am driving a demo unit that I bought from Subaru that had 5000 miles.

Soltera. Loving it.
