I disagree. With IPPay, the fee for ACH is .10 or .15 fixed (I don’t remember,
but its something like that), whereas credit cards are a transaction fee plus
and percentage. For recurring payment, ACH helps the bottom line. Losing 2%
month after month adds up after months/years/decades.

This is one of the reasons I just don’t accept e-checks. All someone needs is
a used or unused check to know the routing and account number, and if you
accept it without seeing proof it’s their account, you could basically be
complicit to check fraud. To even consider accepting an ACH payment over the
phone, I would want that customer to set that up ahead of time as a payment
method, including the voided check thing. I know, there’s also risk with a
card not present transaction, but more checks and easier to fix. It just seems
creepy that anyone who has seen one of your checks can take money right out of
your bank account, and that money is gone, and it’s a difficult process to get
it back.

The other reason is the minimum monthly fee to accept ACH payments through my
bank is too high, and I don’t feel like setting up a separate processor for
e-checks as opposed to scanning paper checks.

We pay like $100 a year for an efax account. Customers get a toll free number
to fax to, we get it via email.

The customers with check bouncing issues probably don’t have access to a fax in
any case. The comment on security issues was in relation to having an image
of the check floating around in email, which is a potential liability I don’t
need given the customers propensity to get their email passwords hacked on a
regular basis.

SMS to a cell phone might not be bad other than I don’t like giving everyone
(and certainly not disgruntled suspended customers) our cell phone numbers ;-)

Making them SMS a picture of the check isn’t a horrible idea. Probably need
to think about the security implications a bit.

What really pisses me off is the lusers that figure out that a EFT transaction
always authorizes then bounces a couple of days later, so they give you a bogus
account to get service turned back on until the check bounces. The bank
doesn’t charge them because they made up the account in the first place, but we
still get the $10 fee from the bank. Not only did they not pay the bill, they
cost us fees.

There is a whole list of people we won’t accept EFT’s from anymore.

That may be the case, but there's no way I could really begin to track that.

We get (or at least used to...) an email when an NSF happens. Haven't seen
that in quite some time, but we also quit doing ACH and probably have 3-5
customers using it.

One thing you might check is make sure the ACH charges actually went through if
you have them. IPPay will get an approval from the bank and give your system
the approval, but if the funds are NSF on the day they draw the transaction
will reverse. There is no mechanism for IPPay to report that via their API so
it is up to the end user to check their IPPay report. Just an idea.

I've done fees/total charge and it was 1.99-2.01% I believe

Yes, I see that.

So I should be able to audit what Platypus/IPPay says was charged, with what
goes into the bank account directly.
There are functions for doing that within Platypus, I just haven’t used them in
years ☺

Maybe I’m not so concerned about that as much as I’m wondering if the IPPay
fees, and merchant fees are on par with the rate I think I’m supposed to be
getting.

Merchant fees come out as their own charge at the end of the month. You should
receive 100% of what you charge.

At times it seems the merchant fees are a lot higher that I thought they would

Does anyone do any sort of checking to make sure what you charge in billing (ie
Powercode) actually shows up in your account (ie Chase)? I don't suspect
anything, but the thought occurred after I saw we're short $500 today from what
we charged in cards on the 13th.
