I've had one that sort of self-destructed. It didn't explode, but the case became swollen, and it spilled some of its guts. Made a big mess in the bottom, and I'm glad it was a fiberglass enclosure instead of steel or aluminum.

anyone ever have a SLA battery explode in a enclosure and ruin everything that was inside?

Yeah, even 10" won't cut it with this switch once you consider the
connections into the switch (and the enclosure's backplane).

We've used the raised lid enclosures. A normally 8" deep
enclosure becomes 10" deep with the raised lid.

Every enclosure I've used is a few inches too shallow for the
switch. I'd like to avoid putting holes in the
sides/top/bottom of the fiber glass to mount a DIN rain. The
switch is 8.25" inch deep so I'd need roughly 8.5" deep or
        more enclosure.

Any suggestions welcome, I am primarily looking at DIN
mounting everything and putting rack mount as a worst case
        backup.
