Hey PM,

The Nao is a very cool little robot, though the $16,000 price tag is a little
tough for me (I tend to scrounge on eBay for parts).

Unfortunately, I don't think it is a good choice for my project.  Maybe I'm
just being stubborn :) but... the visual modality needs lots of gigaflops for
the parts I have sketched out so far, which is doable on a highish end video
card... but since I'll be pulling 20-50 MB/s off of the camera(s), and low
latency is a requirement, the computing has to be on-board -- and there is no
room on the Nao for that.  Also, for the things I want to explore I don't think
I need bipedal locomotion, but I do need good arm/hand capability for reaching,
grasping, exploring shapes, and so forth... the Nao's hands are not very useful
for that purpose.

I do think it's a great platform and if it lined up with my needs I'd seriously
consider it!  Thanks for the suggestion...

Derek Zahn
