The first AGI's are going to be incredibly inefficient IMO. So one of the main applications is going to be using AGI to build a better AGI. Given that nobody initially comes up with Seed AI, the AGI that recursively rewrites itself.
AGI will make a great software engineer :) Engineering and writing software in addition to inserting itself as the software. The better the AGI the less software code generally needed to insert itself. I think this is the path IBM has embarked on with their smart system. IOW the better the AGI the more legacy code it will replace at the same system capability. AGI itself will have many lines of code but those lines will replace many, many systems with lots of interface code initially...depending on how protocols and standards evolve. Automating human labor. 2. Artificial bodies and brains to defeat death by backing up our minds. 3. Evolution of artificial life (self replicating robots, nanotechnology, and organisms based on alternatives to DNA and protein). In our lifetimes I expect to see progress mostly in (1). I agree with Ben that it will be a gradual process. Economic growth will continue to create new jobs to replace the ones automated for many decades to come. AI is a hard problem or else we would have already solved it by now. -- -- Matt Mahoney, [email protected] ------------------------------------------- AGI Archives: https://www.listbox.com/member/archive/303/=now RSS Feed: https://www.listbox.com/member/archive/rss/303/21088071-f452e424 Modify Your Subscription: https://www.listbox.com/member/?member_id=21088071&id_secret=21088071-58d57657 Powered by Listbox: http://www.listbox.com
