This whole illusion thing, aside from uploading actually has potential in AGI. 
If you control the illusion you control the AGI. 

Visualize it as two objects - the AGI's non-phenomenological consciousness and 
in front of that a screen basically that contains the illusions. Like a carrot 
in front of a horse. 

Not a bad model actually. There would be inherent feedback loops going on 
naturally for self-generating illusions but if the AGI's conscious reality is 
contained within the illusion mechanism you basically hook into that externally 
to control the AGI and prevent issues.  You can also preprogram constraints 
within the illusion system.

To me when observing some simpler insects it seems they have similar to this 
two tiered system of consciousness even though I'm sure that there is much more 
going on there.
