I don't expect anyone to not believe in their own conscious experience. Our brains aren't programmed to be able to do that. It is an unfortunate distraction when trying to design AGI. According to Wolpert's theorem, no computer can model itself. That includes the brain. So it should not be surprising that we find some aspects of our mental processes mysterious. But I hope we have figured out that the goal is to reproduce human behavior, and not worry about whether the resulting machine is "conscious" or "sentient". If done right, it will appear to be. But that's all we can say. -- -- Matt Mahoney, [email protected] ------------------------------------------- AGI Archives: https://www.listbox.com/member/archive/303/=now RSS Feed: https://www.listbox.com/member/archive/rss/303/21088071-f452e424 Modify Your Subscription: https://www.listbox.com/member/?member_id=21088071&id_secret=21088071-58d57657 Powered by Listbox: http://www.listbox.com
