Alan, there is nothing *fraudulent* about the Flare language proposal.  I
see no cause for that sort of accusation here.

Personally, I happen not to think Flare is a great programming language
design.

But I don't care much for PL-1 or COBOL or a lot of other language proposed
by programming languages gurus either.

There's certainly nothing fraudulent about proposing a programming language
that isn't so hot.  If there were, then dozens of PhD theses each year would
be fraudulent, as creating and implementing a new language (satisfying some
particular purpose or illustrating some particular point) is a moderately
common PhD topic.  Very very few of the languages proposed and prototypes
ever get used by anyone outside of their creator and a handful of
supporters...

And hey, I could be wrong about Flare. Eliezer says plainly that the syntax
currently proposed for Flare is tentative.

I think the current form of Flare is not going to be workable as a
programming language, but perhaps some variant of it may someday.  The
"annotative programming" idea is interesting...
