Dear All

Rather than just the small title maybe we should be looking at the big title.

A few years back looked we (uni of newcastle DR, RT, NM staff) looked at the title
of our Discipline and made a name change to Medical Radiation Science (from
Technology). This title then become our degree with 3 specialities (RT, DR, NM).
The title was inclusive and allowed for subsets of MRS to exist (RT, NM, DR, Sono,
CT, etc ). It has worked really well for us at uni in elevating our status. The
Science
bit really suggested something that the Technology term did not and has worked and
all on and off campus know the name.

It was suggested to the AIR quite a few years ago (by a committee formed to make
recommendations on just this issue) that the name of the professional journal
change its title to better reflect the membership who could potentially write for it.
I
believe that the title of the journal should change from The Radiographer to
something like The Journal of Medical Radiation Science. The previous term is not
inclusive or suggests inclusiveness. The latter suggests things the former does not
and will embrace more professional groups (and more journal articles). But once
again the council of the AIR (at the time) let that one go through to the keeper
(sound familiar).

The biggie then is the name of the AIR. The Australian Institute of Medical Radiation
Science. Sounds very inclusive (even for NMs and Sonos and CT specialists etc
etc).
