In the main, "Technologist" is an american term - having met some of the
vascular techologists from the USA - they are keen to be recognised by that
term. I have always felt that it describes a more buttonpushing role, not
taking into account the people skills and others that we all have - esp
sonographers.

In my many years of involvement with the ASA - I know that sonographers
prefer to be called sonographers - this is a progression from "radiographer
who does ultrasound" and "ultrasonographer"-a term that is annoyingly
still used today. Any name/title alteration would be best aimed at
expertise of the sonographer, not as part of a profession they are becoming
more and more separate to.
It has taken some time for the term "sonographer"to be recognised in
medical, government and other areas - a change is not required.

As many, and a greater number each year, of sonographers have no medical
imaging background - finding an all-encompassing name is really a waste of
time - I believe.
