I wouldn't completely rule out an ignition switch problem.

I always install starter relays in the earlier Alfas.  Takes the load off that 
fragile ignition switch..

Hi Stevan,

I also have a 73 Berlina with the same starter set up as you and have the exact 
same starter oddity.  So far it has always eventually started, but sometimes 
does take a few turns of the key with nothing but a click.

Next time I go out to the shop [likely this weekend] I was going to start 
cleaning everything in the electrical path between the ignition and the starter 
and see if that had any effect.  I'll let you know what happens.
