My experience is that flashers will also click rapidly if one or more of
the turn-signal bulbs is burned-out (or in the case of Alfas, not making
decent connection due to corrosion or just poor sockets). I was unaware
that short circuits will also cause it...
It depends on which type of unit is in the car. In Jon's car, being a '74,
I assumed that he'd have a bimetallic unit. Those cycle faster under
heavier current load. "Hybrid" units use a relay and timing circuit, and
can sense when a bulb is out. Those are designed to blink at twice normal
rate when that happens. I don't know when Alfa would have switched to
hybrid or solid-state flashers. I kind of figured that wouldn't have
happened until at least the Milano.
