Sometimes they fail by leaking internally. Being non-compressible, the oil on the 'wrong' side of the internal diaphragm means it cannot respond to the engine's oil pressure.

The fix is to drill a small hole on the end of the sensor so the diaphragm can again move. As long as the diaphragm has not totally failed (ruptured) it'll not leak - at least not any significant amount.

Now, having said that, the trick is knowing where to drill the small hole to avoid damaging internal bits. And that tidbit of info eludes me at the moment...

Subject: [alfa] Berlina Oil Pressure Sensor

Has anyone ever cleaned out the oil passage on the oil pressure sensing unit? What's involved. Before I replace it, I'd like to see if I can bring it back
to life.
