Well, if everyone had similar results, even everyone in Indiana or the salt belt, then I'd agree with you. Looks like significant service every 4 yrs, on average. My experience in sunny VA is different, although I do have one 164 from Illinois with no e-brake due to locked up mechanisms as purchased by me. I replaced the cable, but haven't worked out the calipers yet. Our southern-origin cars have not had bothersome e-brake problems.

Is it possible that the 164 likes to have an occasional cable lube? Are the rubber boots and cable-end strain reliefs intact? I have seen a CT car with a rusted-out brake line. I'm not poking at you...it could be that the design lets in too much salt from the roads where you are, and that would be a weakness for some areas.

Subject: [alfa] 164 bad rear brake breaks !

got the rear calipers & pads on 1994 164Q (188050 miles) replaced today, had
been occasionally locking
up & smelling bad, were a rusted up uncooperative mess.

added to the maint. file & noticed, the same thing had been done, rotors
needed turning and twice
with the handbrake cable repleced too, in :

2/2002
11/2005
6/2009
9/2014 does this qualify as being a lousey design or a lousey
product ?
