Subject: [alfa] 1978 Spider fuel pump

Hi everyone,
I heard a funny sound when I started my car this morning, but eventually the
usual whine of the fuel pump. The car started and I drove it about 20 miles,
parked for about an hour and a half, and then drove it home, the same
distance. Noticed nothing unusual when I started it to make the return
journey--even forgot momentarily that there had been something strange
earlier. Later in the day, when I went to start it again, there was NO sound
at all when I turned the key. The sound of the fuel pump is always obvious
before starting the car, but this time nothing. And the car won't start. I
assume the fuel pump has died.B Questions.
1. Is replacing the fuel pump a DIY sort of job, or best left to braver
souls?
I can do basic stuff--like change the oil, change the spark plugs, etc., but
don't have a ton of tools. Would like to save money if I can.
2. Any particular pump to recommend? I see that International Auto Parts
offers two choices, one quite a lot more than the other. Worth going for the
better one?
3. Any other things that should be routinely done at the same time?
Thanks!
