Hi everyone.......another introduction. I'm Kate Tregaskis. Until March this year I was Artistic Director at Stills in Edinburgh, and had been for the past six years. I saw the organisation through the refurbishment project which established the darkrooms and digital lab it now has. I packed in that job because I wanted to try something new and because I couldn't stand the fact any more that the organisation was chronically under resourced - so that we were always having to run really fast just to stand still. I'm currently dividing my time between journalism (writing mainly about cultural policy in the UK, and some reviews, for the likes of Art Monthly, Artists Newsletter, CRAFTS, The Herald, The Irish Times, The Times Educational Supplement and The Big Issue), arts consultancy and being a part-time student on the Mlitt in Creative Writing Course at Glasgow and Strathclyde Universities. (When I grow up I want to write novels.)
One of the consultancy projects I'm currently involved in is advising the National Galleries of Scotland on the content for a number of touch screens which will be installed in the Playfair Project - a new underground resource which will link the National Gallery (on the Mound) with the Royal Scottish Academy on Princes Street in Edinburgh due to open either in 2004 or 2005. Linked to this I'm advising the Nat Gals on content for a new website too. I'm anticipating that as part of the project I will be orgnaising a seminar to take place early next year which invites international speakers to talk about some of the issues thrown up by the research. I'll keep you all posted on this if it looks like it's going to be relevant to ambit people. My particular interest (probably a hang over from my previous job) is cultural policy.
