a quick reply - many of the needs were fairly simple but we couldn't
previously supply them. Very good projectors, projectors that could work in
daylight, 16mm/35 mm projectors, easy internet access and power throughout
the entire building, reasonaly sophisticated mac and pc facilities, dvd
technology, minidiscs, proper amplification (and good acoustics), a dance
floor, decent lighting equipment and other technology for performance,
mixing equipment...etc

For almost any event in the past we found ourselves hiring in this kind of
material and so much of the budgets were more expensive than they needed to
be and hiring can't always get what you need on a specific date at the
necessary price. The new building gave us a chance to create a better
technological base and for instance to wire the galleries more effectively
and invisibily so that power/internet facilities are available at any point
(and throughout whole building). Also Ove Arup Acoustics section worked on
acoustics of all the space and helped to specifiy new equipment (Caroline
Kirsop, CCA's gallery manager, has details on this as she has been ordering
it and we left it to latest moment to get most up to date materials - but
she will too busy until end of Oct to address this for ambit!)

there is more beyond getting up to speed on these essentials and we
anticipate that the proposals and projects with artists will become more
ambitious when it becomes clear what is possible in the building.

I will address that with Caroline in a separate email - the above is simply
a general explanation...
