Hi, hello,
first, Hello snipe! I never saw you write in the amsn ML, so welcome.. or maybe
'humm.. weird new name' ..
anyways
I don't know why, but I received all your reply in ONE SINGLE LINE.. no
newlines in it, it was impossible to
read.. thankfully Tom answered from your mail so I was able to read what you
wrote from within his own mail..
now let me inline-comment your statements..

oups, then sorry, I didn't mean to say 'screw the proxy people' :p it is true
that it's too slow, but do we have
time to rewrite it ?
vivia, maybe you can help for the proxy stuff.. I know nothing about it, I
could rewrite it to use http, but
don't know about how to integrate it to use proxy... can u help on this ?

yes, you're right, but if we wait one year to do this feat, then it's stupid to
delay 0.97.. problem is activity
of the devels, time and resources that we can put on this..

yes, but now we have already 3 options for sorting, + this one isn't very clear
to begin with, which is why I'm
asking.
this option allows you to have (in a single group or 'online' group) either :
user5
user7
user3 (Away)
user4 (Away)
user2 (be right back)
user1 (busy)
user6 (busy)
that's the urrent behavior of amsn.. or, if you disable the option, you could
have :
user1 (busy)
user2 (be right back)
user3 (away)
user4 (away)
user5
user6 (busy)
user7

now 'sort by status', we already have that, but it means something else.. order
by status, is still confusing
'group by status', it's even worse.. a menu option should be a few words only,
but to explain this, it would
need a sentence, which is why I said avanced prefs...
also, it's not something that you'll enable or disable everyday.. options in
the menus should be 'comonly
used'..
we could put it in the appearance tab of the prefs window.. no ?

ok, the mail was sent before or after Tom committed his latest changes ? now,
those fields take 50% of the
window, so for small sizes, they aren't too huge..(by the way GREAT JOB Tom)..
but maybe you have your amsn
window maximized.. so Tom, maybe you should do :
either 50% of the window, or X, whichever is the smallest (in other words, set
a max size for the fields)

humm.. very interesting points, the 12 year old child, ouch, that's bad! and I
agree.. you get into a fight with
your wife, and she decides to screw your amsn, that's also bad :p so, yes, not
allow you to do it from the login
screen, I would definitely agree on that case, but let's not put it in an
'obscure' place either.. so I say, we
keep the 'forget me' button, but when pressed, we show a popup message saying
"for security reasons, you cannot
delete the currently selected profile from this window. If you wish to delete
the profile, please go to the
preferences window, in the others tab" .. of course, better written message,
and saying that it's a non
recoverable operation and that you loose all your settings and log files,
etc... it will also allow us to
implement it more easily :p
about the password thing, I don't think it's doable, it's a good idea, but
won't work, first because we don't
save the password, so we can't compare unless we sign the user in, also, it
woul dmean the user can't delete a
profile if he's not connected on the net, and finally, if we save the password,
then it's useless, the password
is already entered!
also, WLM allows to uncheck the remember_me, in our case, we always allowed
users to delete from prefs window,
and noone ever complained, so it's better to just keep it like that.. if a
problem arises, then too bad, you
should lock your screen before you go to work, not our fault (transfer of
responsability:p)

thanks for the comments :)
