If the goal is to merely have a directory of "externally written android
widgets", you are correct, one does not need Google for that.

In fact, I've toyed with setting up a resource directory site for
Android developers, to cover links to components (e.g., widgets), links
to tutorials, links to discussion groups, etc. Perhaps set up as a wiki
or something, for simplified community contributions. Preferably ad
free. And so on.

Most days, though, I'm utterly convinced nobody will ever find the site,
meaning setting it up would be a waste of my time.

If somebody beats me to it, fantastic, and I'll be happy to contribute
links and descriptions. Otherwise, eventually, I'll have a day where I
have the time and am in a "oh, what the <bleep>" sorta mood, and will
start setting one up.

If somebody can convince me that we as a community can set up a
compendium of Android developer resources that *will* be found by
newcomers, despite the assumption of not getting any links off of
official Android sites, then I'll be more likely to move more quickly.
