IMHO, the more distribution channels there are the better even for Google. Google is not in this playing field to generate a few pennies from the profit of an app but has a greater purpose to make sure Android becomes the defacto Mobile OS & prepare for the next round of their services over a dominant mobile OS. I assume even most of the 30% is being handed over to carriers, their affiliated partners to scale distribution further. SlideME is not even making a profit from selling of the apps via SAM, as we know this is a great chance of building communities to make changes, but needs contribution from all. Google, SlideME and all, is all good to have. What's the fuss? We've seen till today most other platforms have hardly made any such drastic changes in this arena...& I won't even get into Apple's 'just a good looking device' that I god rid of the day after!
There's a lot of work still that needs to be done for Android as a whole, and if we start wasting our times over domestic issues such as blocking each other out, etc, I'll start thinking less of the chiefs leading the direction and future of Android. Focus should be spent on expansion not how to restrict Android and its virgin channels out there that will simply promote Android.
