If you want something to really bake your noodle, in the US you pay to
receive domestic calls and SMSs'  (For our US friends; in the EU you
only pay when you sent or if you receive whilst not in your own
country).

In the EU owning a cellular 'phone can work out cheaper than owning a
landline, in the US it seems to be rarely the case.
