Just pray you don't get the UKs public housing ideas as well. Within 4 houses of each other near where I live (in the UK) there's a couple in their 50s who've worked most of their life and bought a newly built house worth about 300,000 USD and a single mother in her 20s with 2 kids who has got the same style of house (also newly built) and her rent is paid for out by "housing benefit" (i.e. social security payments). The couple in their 50s have to pay for any work/repairs on the house themselves (as they own the property), the single mother in her 20s gets it all paid for by the local housing association (mostly out of money raised from taxes).
Some elements of UK social policy, like the NHS, are good, but don't believe anyone who tells you the majority of the working population in the UK think they get value for money for their taxes.
