There seems to be the assumption that Google TVs success is linked to the Logitech unit, personally I'd say that's wrong and it's far more dependant on the success of the Sony TV / Blu-Ray player units.
>From my experience external boxes tend to fall into two categories; - Media providers (DVD, DVR, Consoles, Cable boxes, etc.) - Interim devices (Logitech Revue) The Interim devices aren't designed to be the final product, they're just a stepping stone until the functionality is rolled into the TV, so in the same way that Digital Terrestrial TV set top boxes slowly will go to the recycling bin as people renew their old TVs and find the new one comes with the functionality built in, we'll see devices like the Revue disappear as the functionality is rolled into the TV/media player/console. Yahoo Widgets were a good first step, but they're missing a lot of functionality (e.g. a pay-for app solution), and I expect that's the reason Samsung started to move away from them. The Samsung move shows the manufacturers thing there is a need for something beyond widgets, and Google TV has a good chance of being the next step because it's not a single vendor solution and probably has a low licensing cost (if any), so it's positioned for the next generation of entertainment device OSes in the same way Android was for smart phones. To me the Revue is a developer unit. It's for the early adopters. It's like the G1 was for Android (how many non-techie users did you see with a G1?); And the current version is a first release that needs some polish, but, like Android, I can see it becoming popular, becoming more wide spread as it comes pre-installed on TVs', etc., and the key thing to remember is that, unlike the smartphone market, there isn't an existing strong player that users have tied their lives to.
