I asked early on, and no.

The LVL does have some timeout mechanism, but it was meant to give the
Market time to verify the license, not give a user time to buy a
license.

Two things stand in the way:
- You can't download a paid application without buying it.
- You can't use LVL in a free application.
- You can't have the same package name for a free app and a paid app.

The Android Market is the only one who can really put that Try button
next to that buy button.
