Essentially, they want 0.575% of sales. This hardly seems like an

Lodsys, I've decided to go ahead with in-app purchases instead of
using an unlocking app. If you look at
the https://market.android.com/details?id=apps_topgrossing list in the
market, virtually all of those apps use in-app purchase. I would love
to be in that list myself.
You can't deal with terrorists.
If this works out for Lodsys as an income stream, then a flood of
additional patent trolls will materialize, and simply sending out checks
to the 100 trolls every month will become a major task.
And at that point, 100 * 0.575% is 57% of your sales.
I don't know about you, but I can't afford to be giving all of my money
to people who didn't earn it.

I agree with Tim. Don't let them win! Their patent is unfounded. But
the problem is much larger. Patent trolls have gamed the technical
illiteracy of the patent office. Most software patents should NEVER
have been granted. Most are based on just the way computers work.
Those things were not nailed down so opportunists jumped in and patented
them. Unfortunately about the only way to ever get them invalidated
would be the collapse of the United States and then patents could not be
enforced except maybe by corporate warlords who wouldn't waste their
time with small potatoes.
