This thread has taken a somewhat different turn in the last few days...
I have had trouble with my e-mail and I missed a few days. Thanks for the archives!

Yes, and I apologize to the list. I was - and am - frustrated by my inability to get this thing working and I forgot momentarily that this is a group of dedicated individuals working on the project because they enjoy it - as do I, but I am frustrated by the lack of knowledge on my part, and the difficulty in obtaining it.

I came to the conclusion that I will be unable to use my WCF-11 card. I don't have the means to flash the ROM and the temporary upload procedures tell me that my card is incompatible.

Following comments here and elsewhere I ordered and Ambicom WL1100C CF card (Prism 3), and my first attempt was to set it up with WEP. I did get it to connect, but it is very unstable. The connection just drops after a few minutes, or the screen on my terminal session goes all white until I unplug and re-insert the card.

In any event, the objective is to get WPA going. The Angstrom manual is silent on this, so I started working through setting up a wpa suppicant using the instructions in the OpenZaurus wiki. I set up /etc/network/interfaces as shown in the wiki and downloaded a copy of wpa_supplicant and installed the following network block (anonymized):

# Only WPA-PSK is used. Any valid cipher combination is accepted.
network={
        ssid="(my SSID)"
        proto=WPA
        key_mgmt=WPA-PSK
        pairwise=CCMP TKIP
        group=CCMP TKIP WEP104 WEP40
        psk=( a 64 character hex number )
        priority=2
}
--------------------------------
now, ifup wlan0 >ifup.txt yields the following:

run-parts /etc/network/if-pre-up.d
WPA: Configuring Interface
Could not configure driver to use managed mode
Could not set interface 'wlan0' UP
Failed to set encryption.
Failed to set encryption.
Failed to set encryption.

udhcpc -n -p /var/run/udhcpc.wlan0.pid -i wlan0
udhcpc (v1.2.1) started
SIOCGIFINDEX failed!: No such device
-------------------------------

For some reason, the error messages on the console are more complete than the ones in the file including a lot of lines like
ioctl[SIOCSIWPMKSA] No such device

I've looked at if-pre-up.d and really can't make any sense out of it.

I'd be very grateful if someone could help me. I'm happy to RTFM is I could find it!
