Thank you Sigamy, this seems like a pretty good system.

It doesn't work so well with Toodledo because it's a bit more of a pain to
move things from folder to folder (not a huge pain, but a little one). I
thought I might just be able to look at my completed items instead and
uncheck the ones I wanted to reuse, but Toodledo hides them after a week
unless you buy the Pro version. I hate spending money(!) but I might just
have to upgrade because there are other features there that look good too.

Thanks again. I am sure I'll be able to come up with a workable system based
on yours. And Appigo will come up with something one of these days!

Regards,
Anna

Anna,

I'm using RTM with Todo. I also wanted a shopping list functionality. I
looked at the dedicated apps but I wanted to get it to work with Todo, as
I'd already paid for it.

My solution is pretty basic, but it is working so far. All I've done is
create two lists: "All Groceries" and then "Shopping". In the "All
Groceries" list I add all the items that we purchase normally.
As time goes on I'll add more. I do this in RTM on the web as it is easier
for data entry. I've named items according to categories to ease sorting
for example, "Bread-Hamburger Rolls", "Bread-Whole Wheat", "Bread-Hot Dog".

When I need to create a shopping list, I simply move items from the All
Groceries to the Shopping list. The beauty is that my wife can do this
online at home on the computer and then I can sync my iPhone and have the
list before I walk into the store. Works well. While shopping I just tap
items as complete. Then when I get back to a computer I move the items out
of Shopping and back into All Groceries. You could also do that right via
Todo, but it is more taps and I don't want to drop my iPhone in the store.

I've thought about making empty lists for each store (Home Depot, Sears,
etc).

I hope this is helpful for you.
