Hello Anna,

I am using a program called CarbonFin Outliner on my iPhone for my
shopping lists. Outliner allows you to create hieararchical lists, and
you have the choice of turning checkboxes on or off for any particular
item at any level. I have a running shopping list in Outliner with 2
sections: the items I need to buy now, which have checkboxes, and
"Reference" items without checkboxes, so that I can remember what
brands I buy in various categories.

It is interesting how many different kinds of iPhone applications are
aimed at different aspects of the same needs. I have been on a long
odyssey to replace Palm Treo tasks and memos with something that syncs
to the desktop and stores locally on the iPhone.

For those two simple things, I've had to look at a bunch of task
applications like Todo and Things, note-keeping applications like
Notebook, Note/Info Organizers like Evernote, list-making
applications, outlining applications, and file storage applications.
Thank God Appigo has come along with a solution, which Apple really
should have provided. (The market for task and note applications is
now so robust that I doubt Apple will ever complete the links from the
iPhone to tasks and notes on the Mac desktop.)

I have settled on the solution of Appigo Todo and Notebook + Toodledo,
but in looking at the other kinds of programs out there, I've
discovered that an outlining program in addition is great for shopping
lists, structured note-taking and other kinds of notes and lists that
may or may not need completion checkboxes and hierarchy. Outliner also
backs up to the developer's "cloud," and you can export/import an
outline from there in the .opml format for use with a desktop
organizing program like Bonzai for Windows or OmniOutliner for the
Mac. It's not full sync, but it does allow you to move outlines
between desk and phone.

The Two Appigos + Outliner seem to be the way to go for me.

Hope this helps!
