I don't think it is so much a matter of reinventing the wheel as different people having different methods and access to different types of hardware. (Though I can see how my method could be regarded as reinventing the wheel, you could easily use a printer which does not support control codes and end up with plain text files. It depends upon how important the formatting is. If the person wants to convert it to XML, it may be easier to hire a programmer to automate the process anyway. It depends upon how much material there is.) Also, going back to the original post you will see that a word processor called "Gutenberg" was used (no association with the Gutenberg Project, no association with the original Gutenberg press ;-). We don't know if it is compatable with AppleWorks. Seeming as my catalog suggests that it runs on a Plus, it may predate AppleWorks in the first place.
