PINE is a mail and newsreader for Linux, BSD, DOS, .... and even Windows.

It is programmed by the university of washington IMHO.

The bad thing is, that the DOS port has come to a halt, and there will be
no further DOS versions :((

The last version works great, but it has some deficiencies because of
shortage of memory :((( (sadly it is NOT compiled with DJGPP)
So if you look at a large Newsgroup, it will exit with a lack of memory
version.

The other bad thing is, that it is made for local MBOX file access under
Linux. It has also support for IMAP, but only VERY limited support for POP.

PS: There is a good free IMAP provider, called www.subdimension.com.
But they only provide IMAP, and no SMTP. (so you have to use your ISPs
SMTP server to _SEND_ mail)

I have forgotten the exact URL but a search engine should help.
(I think it was something with *.washington.edu)
