That's only part of the truth ...
It is a IMAP _AND_ POP server.
Arachne uses the POP part to retrieve EMails !!! (and NOT IMAP !!!!)
So here's a breif explanation:
IMAP4 protocol to get mails. (currently not supported ba Arachne)
POP3 protocol to get mails. (supported by arachne)
SMTP protocol to send mails. (supported by arachne)
authenticated SMTP protocol to send mails. (IMHO not supported by arachne
... I haven't seen any username/password field for SMTP)
So I hope this clears up things.
It would be interesting, if it is possible to SEND Mails through
telebot.net !!
