In Linux, the first "physical" HDD is hda
(second physical HDD [or CdRom] is hdb, third is hdc, etc, etc)
So, if your first physical HDD is split like this.....
partition 1 ----- C:
partition 2 ----- extended dos with 3 logical drives
Linux "hd" indications
hda1 ----- c:
hda5 ----- d:
hda6 ----- e:
hda7 ----- f:
hdb1 ----- CdRom
If however you have a second physical HDD on which d: resides
hda1 ----- c:
hdb1 ----- d:
hdc1 ----- CdRom
