Hi Ross;
I no longer have 1.47 on my system - but I just tried 1.48 which is
quite similar only better (which is why I still have it loaded).
First, the choices for LocalIcons are Yes and No.
Luckily, when I tested it, I found the only choice that matters is "Yes"
- all others are taken as "No". So, your Icons are probably off.
As I suggested, try a directory listing. Enter "file:*.*" in the URL
window. Hit enter. You should get a vertical list of files.
There will be a checkbox "Enable Icons" and a button "ACCEPT"
If you check the box and hit accept you will see the "Icon Interface".
This makes no difference to your problem. I tried to delete mail with
version 1.48 using the "Highlight and delete" method and it didn't work.
Sorry, that's the way it is.
I would suggest you try version 1.50b2 which looks VERY much like the
one you have except for the dialer page which you will want to keep
a copy of - Save your current PPP_INIT.htm for future use.
1.50b2 has VERY much to recommend it. It is almost bulletproof, faster,
the function you want WORKS, and it still uses the old directory structure.
Except the MAIL directory structure may be different from what you have now.
So to re-cap, the problem isn't Icon mode, it is version 1.47 (and 1.48).
Hope you will consider the upgrade - it isn't at all like a normal upgrade
which just gets bigger. This gets BETTER without getting bigger.
I still use 1.50b2 myself sometimes. Remember to save copies of everything
you have right now - like arachne.cfg and .pck and all your mail. I don't
remember what bugs the installer has. Your safest bet is to install the
newer version in a different directory to start and then copy over the old
version when you are happy.
Good luck.
