I will try any and all changes which might permit me to
"delete" mail from the index of the Inbox, rather than
having to display each and every one of the 500 messages,
so the Trash button can be used.

It's probably worth checking your Config.sys for a line like this:
shell=c:\dos\command.com c:\dos\ /p/e:512
The final figure is important - don't go smaller, use 1024 or 2048
if you wish.

Hehe. At Arachne Chat I once said that men are only happy with machines
that they can tinker with and tune, which is why we're not interested in
kitchen appliances. Inevitably I got replies that for many their PCs live
in the kitchen and _are_ kitchen appliances!
