hi,
once I installed a Linux mini-distrib called Pygmy on my 486/66, 4Mb Ram
Laptop. It worked well and had an extra pcmcia support package. You could
easily install it on an existing dos partition. The CLI mode was fine, but I
didn't try GUI, guess it will be slow. But with at least 8Mb Ram there
should be no problem.
I removed it after I found all these
amazing dos-ports of linux-programs on the web, because I rather go for a
fast quick 'n dirty system than a decent slow one (now speaking about
bootsequences, as booting this small linux took as long as booting a
sophisticated NT system.).
HTH,
Ioannis
