Not that I know of.  It should be possible to modify the gpm
daemon to access the keyboard instead of the mouse, but I've
never seen this anywhere.

I agree.  I don't install gpm for my CLI.  If I want to do 
some complicated editing, I fire up X and NEdit.  I *love* 
NEdit -- it does everything:  macros, HTML highlighting, spell 
checking, you-name-it.  It even blocks text with SHIFT-arrow.
