"Once I
transfer the DOS operating system to the HDD, will I be able to recover
my
original WIN 95 installation by booting to a WIN 95 system floppy and
then
transferring the WIN 95 operating system files back to the HDD by using
the
WIN 95 SYS command?"

er, either I am confused or you are ... I'll bet we both are <g>.

Anyway: Just make a "C:\DOS" directory. Copy all your DOS (ver.whatever
... I use 6.22) files into that. WIN95 won't notice.

You won't need to worry about a "WIN95" system floppy ... WIN95 still
uses DOS (er, so does all that wincrap ... so far, ... it's getting hard
to find in ME & 2000).

You don't really need a boot disk ... just do F8/F5 & do the "command
prompt".

I am assuming (oops) you are using FAT16. If you try this with later
ver. of WIN95 & FAT32 ... that won't work. If your HDD is formatted FAT
32 ... forget old DOS stuf.

Sam, if this isn't confusing enuf ... contact me off the list. I will
confuse you more better.
