Ed, looks to me like you are trying to do a login by PAP
authentication when you should be doing a manual login, or have
"username", "password" and "ppp" in a script file.
IIRC, these should show up on the screen when you dialup in
terminal mode. Or, you can try entering them manually in
"use terminal mode".
You should not fill in username and password for PAP/CHAP
authentication if you normally manually enter these followed by
entering "ppp". At least it is like that for me for one of
my dialup numbers.
