Hi Ed,
I just downloaded ARCHN169.EXE into RAMdrive D:.
Typed "archn169" and ran archn169.exe. I picked D:\arachne
as my Arachne directory. I selected "0" for next 2 options(xms, vga).
I selected proper video options for my video card. I selected
486 option for my computer setup. I then aborted Arachne
setup with "ESC". I replaced "arachne.cfg" and "mime.cfg"
with the files below. I place an empty file labeled "home.bmp"
in d:\arachne directory.
I "cd arachne" and typed "arachne" and then pressed enter.
BINGO, there's arachne. Then "cntrl-D".
When asked for F7, I press F7. Arachne connects.
If you fail to get connected, it is probably due to not enough
conventional memory. Arachne has to have enough conventional
or low memory to work its buffers.
I have altered the below files to my preference in places that
I no longer remember so you will probably wish to go thru
Arachne setup installation completely. I offer these files
only to try and get you online.
Goodluck,
Eric
;This is ARACHNE.CFG for Arachne version 1.6+
;If you want to use Arachne on PC with CPU 486+ you should start here.
;(tested on AMD K5/133). This profile is slightly less video-intensive.
;This configuration file can be completely controled from Arachne setup.
;Run "setup" if you are not sure what to change in configuration file.

;Arachne understands four basic file types: HTM, GIF, BMP, TXT and ASF. Only
;GIF and BMP can be inlined using <IMG> tag. If the file has different

;ASF files are treated as script files (simply lists of URLs).

Hello Clarence and Bernie, and anyone else who has an idea on why I can't
get Arachne to connect to the Internet.
I tried all the steps to increase the amount of free memory. I also have
tried a second ISP that I use daily in Win98, with the correct DNS username
and numbers.
Since I have 64 megs of RAM to start with, I doubt that insufficient memory
is the problem. I could be wrong however.
I have included first the exact screen text when I attempt to get online
with Terminal Window active.
The pre revised and revised conventional mem.logs are next below. Following
that, I have pasted the final Config.sys and Autoexec.bat from the actual
computer I am trying to hook up. Lastly, I have pasted in the contents of a
file that has all the memory information.
Thanks for your help.
